Земляне в этом фильме выглядят более агрессивными и пугающими существами, нежели инопланетяне; они готовы без раздумий уничтожать все незнакомое. Инопланетяне панически боятся землян и мечтают лишь как можно быстрее улететь отсюда. Их интеллектуальное и социальное превосходство показано недвусмысленно, и это только доказывает невозможность сближения 2 рас - по крайней мере, в данный момент. Тема похищения внешнего облика вновь возникнет в шедевре Дона Сигела Вторжение похитителей тел, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Тварь из Черной лагуны хронологически занимает в этом ряду 32-е место; в ней впервые была использована технология «Vectograph», разработанная фирмой «Polaroid» и позволяющая демонстрировать трехмерную картину с одной копии. До этого момента для каждого показа требовались 2 копии и 2 проекционных аппарата, работавшие синхронно, что влекло за собой повышенные расходы для прокатчиков и многочисленные неполадки на сеансах. Технология «Vectograph» появилась слишком поздно и уже не могла спасти формат 3-D, так и не снискавший успеха у публики.
       Тварь из Черной лагуны стала 3-м из 4 фильмов, снятых Джеком Арнолдом в 3-мерном формате (после Оно прилетело из космоса, It Came From Outer Space и Стеклянной паутины, The Glass Web, 1953). Этот фильм стал одной из самых успешных 3-мерных картин в Америке (во Франции она вышла на экраны в обычном формате), и у него есть целый ряд достоинств, которые стоит отметить. В 1-е послевоенные годы мало кому из киномонстров удавалось завоевать такую популярность: поэтому у фильма было немало подражаний. Фильм обладал очевидным поэтическим очарованием; некоторые даже не постеснялись сравнить его с картинами Кокто. По этим причинам фильм нельзя назвать недостойным великих фантастических фильмов, снятых в 30-е гг. на студии «Universal». (Из потомства Твари следует упомянуть Подругу Твари, The She Creature, Эдвард Л. Кан, 1956 – этот фильм, разумеется, многим обязан Твари, однако намного ее превосходит.)
       Чудовище в фильме Джека Арнолда было сыграно 2 разными актерами – в зависимости от того, передвигалось ли оно под водой (Рику Браунинг) или на воздухе (Бен Чэпмен). Рику Браунинг был олимпийским чемпионом по плаванию и мог задерживать дыхание на 4―5 мин. С технической точки зрения подводные съемки были настоящим подвигом; специально для фильма Клиффорд Стайн разработал двойную кинокамеру «Arriflex 35 mm» в герметически закрытом ящике. На волне коммерческого успеха фильма родились 2 продолжения: Месть Твари, Revenge of the Creature, Джек Арнолд, 1955 – последний фильм в формате 3-D; и Тварь среди нас, The Creature Walks Among Us, Джон Шервуд, 1958; оба фильма уступают 1-му, однако не лишены достоинств. В конце 70-х гг. в Америке и Англии вновь вышли в прокат 3-мерные копии Твари из Черной лагуны и Оно прилетело из космоса. Наконец, в 1982 г. состоялся эксперимент с 3-мерной трансляцией Твари из Черной лагуны по французскому телевидению («FR3»). Эта трансляция не была достаточно внятно растолкована публике, а потому, несмотря на полный успех эксперимента в техническом отношении, зрители остались разочарованы, и подобные трансляции с тех пор не повторялись.
